Waitrose home site widgets - A novel way to engage customers online
We were asked by Waitrose to develop a series of interactive home site widgets for them that showcased the wine and flowers range. Both widgets can be seen below.
Home site widgets allow consumers (who know they like the Waitrose brand already) to cut straight to the chase. A customer who is looking to spend a certain amount on flowers, for example, can quickly and easily set the amount they are prepared to pay and select from the ranges that automatically display in the viewing panel. Customers can also select the type of flowers and occassion. Because we extract rich product attributes with standard product data, the product descriptions and images are also rendered within the widget.
Over mother's day, the Flowers widget had a 25% conversion rate of customers who used it. The convertion rate is normally enhanced because on selection of goods, the customer is taken directly to the relevant page and the item can either be showed for inclusion in the basket, or actually placed for the customer in the basket.
We also created a Wine widget. This neat widget allows the 'discerning' wine enthusiast to choose the variety of grape and region, as well as the price they want to pay. The descriptions and images are included in the widgets and once again the online customer can toggle the price range to suit their budget. An extra feature of this widget is the ability to select goods that are under offer, for gifts or are new to the range.
In short, home site widgets are great because:
- They showcase entire product ranges in a very simple format
- They are interactive and allow people to cut to the chase and purchase quickly and effectively
- You can encourage engagement by identifying key product traits people are interested in
- Click through can be straight to basket or product page once the item is selected. This increases onsite conversion
